We are proud to announce the return of our popular screening programme for people with dementia and their families and carers.
Thanks to generous support from The Ballinger Charitable Trust, each month we'll screen one of your favourite musicals and our trained staff will be on hand with a warm welcome.
Screenings are open to everyone and anyone. We screen the films with the lights up a little and sound down a touch in our beautiful Classic auditorium. Come along, sing along to the action onscreen, and above all, HAVE FUN!
We are delighted to announce that Tyneside Cinemas Dementia Friendly Cinema programme was announced as a winner of the North East Equality Awards in the category of organisations between 51 and 250 staff at a ceremony in October!
Thank you to all those friends and people who have made Dementia Friendly Cinema so welcoming.
We commissioned a documentary film of our pilot project, from young filmmakers Northern Stars, which shows what we did and what the project meant to those who came along to our screening and cafes, in their own words:
The Dementia Friendly Cinema project was initiated by the Elders’ Council of Newcastle who also provided seed funding to start the project.
Ballinger Trust provided a donation which enabled us to launch the research project and have now provided a grant to that will enable us to support and deliver a three-year Dementia-Friendly Cinema Programme.
Dementia Friendly Cinema Project Partners:
Tyneside Cinema, Elders Council of Newcastle, Quality of Life Partnership, University of Newcastle Institute for Ageing, Newcastle Carers, Dementia Care, and Alzheimers Society.
