Random Acts

Random Acts are short films made by artists, not films about artists. They are bold, daring and challenging expressions of creativity delivered in short film form, between 90 seconds and 3 minutes long,

Tyneside Cinema is working as part of Random Acts Network Centre North to deliver 24 films a year between 2015 and 2018. Each film is directed by a young artist or filmmaker between the age of 16 and 24 and completed films have the chance to be showcased on Channel 4’s online and broadcast platforms.

Applications to Random Acts are currently closed but you can find out more about the programme at http://www.randomactsnorth.org/

Random Acts Network Centre North

In 2015, five organisations across England – comprising the ICA, Calling the Shots, Rural Media, Screen South and Tyneside Cinema – were funded to become Random Acts Network Centres, in a joint initiative by Arts Council England and Channel 4, to develop young people’s talent and provide them with entry points to the arts and creative industries.

Over three years (2015-2018), the project has offered 16 to 24 year olds training and production support to make their own short films, designed for broadcast on television, or shown online as part of Channel 4’s Random Acts strand.

Random Acts North is a partnership between Tyneside Cinema (Newcastle), HOME (Manchester), and True North Productions (Leeds).
