Our BFI Fiction Academy gives you the chance to learn how to direct, produce, shoot and edit your own short fictional movie and gain a unique insight into the UK film business from industry professionals.

Our Fiction Academy is for 16-19 year olds from anywhere in the North East of England who have ambitions to work in film and want to learn more about how the industry works. Whether you aspire to work in production, film journalism or distribution, we want to hear from you!

What Will You Get Out Of It?

  • Watch some of the best short films from around the world.
  • Meet working industry professionals and like-minded young people with a passion for film.
  • Learn about how to adapt a script, direct actors, shoot a scene, design a soundscape, and edit your rushes.
  • Enjoy use of Tyneside Cinema's state-of-the-art filmmaking facilities
  • Share your film at a world premiere at Tyneside Cinema for family and friends.

The programme also helps you work towards a NCFE Preparing to Work in the Film Industry qualification, which develops your creativity and leadership skills and can count towards entry to college or University.

It costs just £25 to take part but a number of bursaries are available to help cover course fees, travel costs and child care if required.
