We are committed to offering everyone the opportunity to experience high quality, authentic experiences that encourage students to get involved with filmmaking in all its forms. As part of our commitment to high quality arts activity, Tyneside Cinema supports young people in achieving the national Arts Award scheme. We also work alongside schools to achieve and sustain Artsmark status.

We are especially keen to work develop partnerships with educational settings who have enrolled or plan to enrol in Artsmark, Arts Council England's national award designed by schools, for schools.

Artsmark is Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools and other organisations to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate their arts and cultural provision. Artsmark protects and supports arts in education settings, helping to unlock the potential of children and young people to develop character, build talent and increase knowledge and understanding

Through high quality participatory arts activity Tyneside Cinema offers opportunities to achieve and maintain this nationally recognised accreditation, and highlight the great work taking place in schools across the North East.

For schools and colleges in the North East Artsmark is delivered by Culture Bridge North East. Any school can apply and Artsmark schools gain access to special resources as well as networks of cultural institutions, which in turn helps to strengthen and develop their arts provision.

Please contact filmschool@tynesidecinema.co.uk for more information on how Tyneside Cinema can work to achieve and maintain Artsmark status for your school.

Arts Award

Arts Award supports children and young people aged up to 25 in exploring any art form including film, performing arts, visual arts, literature and multimedia, working towards a recognised national qualification as recognition of their hard work. The award builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities, and can prepare them for further education or employment.

As a registered Arts Award centre, Tyneside Cinema can offer young people the opportunity to achieve valuable nationally recoginised accreditation for arts activity they take part in. With qualified Arts Award advisors in our team we can include Arts Award within our work with schools and colleges, working with groups to achieve accreditation for participants.

Workshops for schools at Tyneside Cinema can support Arts Award at Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver levels for classes or individual students. Please contact us for more information.
