From global superstars Laurel and Hardy visiting Tynemouth at the height of their fame to the resilience of people in Gateshead during the Second World War, Tyneside on Film is an opportunity to take a visual journey through the history of people on both sides of the river caught on celluloid over the last century.
Following the hugely successful Newcastle on Film, North East Film Archive have delved into the vaults once again to present a curated programme especially for Tyneside audiences. Films capturing industries that once flanked the Tyne, the changing Newcastle and crazy fashions of the swinging 60s, and trips out to the coast all feature in this brand new programme presented by the archive team.
North East on Film is a region-wide project reconnecting the people and communities of the north east with their film heritage, providing important glimpses into our social and industrial history through special screenings, events and presentations of new online collections.
North East on Film is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
