An anarchic satire covering race, gender politics and capitalism, SORRY TO BOTHER YOU is an uncategorisable, hilarious and dazzlingly inventive debut from rapper Boots Riley. Rising star Lankeith Stanfield (Atlanta) stars as struggling call centre worker Cassius Green who discovers life is much easier if he uses his 'white voice'. This decision to sell out brings wealth, success and the attention of a shady millionaire (Armie Hammer), but also puts Cassius at odds with his rapidly unionising colleagues and radical artist girlfriend (Tessa Thompson).
The film’s sharp take on racial politics in contemporary America has drawn comparisons with Get Out, but the colourful, DIY visuals and surreal twists also chime with the work of Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze. In his dark satirical debut, Boots Riley firmly establishes himself as a powerful new voice in contemporary cinema.
