Described as a horror movie of the soul, a description relished by the director, Safe follows a suburban housewife (wonderfully played by Haynes favourite Julianne Moore) who suddenly finds herself "allergic to the 20th century”.
Unable to find help she heads to Wrenwood, a new-age retreat for those who are "environmentally ill," and leaves her husband and stepson to try and find salvation at this retreat: headed by a phony, grandstanding, "sensitive" individual named Peter Dunning.
