This event is part of Birds' Eye View's Reclaim The Frame campaign to bring ever greater audiences to films by women, build a more balanced film future and offer a wider perspective of the world.
MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL stars as Lisa Spinelli, a kindergarten teacher and poet fed up with her career, her oblivious husband and teenage kids who largely ignore her. When she discovers that a five-year-old in her class may be a poetic prodigy, Lisa becomes fascinated and tries to protect him from neglectful parents. She soon finds herself risking her career and family to nurture his talent.
There will be a post-screening panel discussion hosted by Mia Bays who runs Birds' Eye View, the charitable pathfinder for films by women and network for those who make, show, release and watch them. Mia is an Oscar-winning producer of documentaries and fiction.
The panel discussion line up includes film critic Kaleem Aftab and poet and filmmaker Be Manzini plus others to be confirmed soon.
You can also join us after the screening for an ace poetry workshop facilitated by the amazing Be after the event, join us to flex your poetry prowess!
Be specialises in creative writing and processes for empowerment, her writing practice spans poetry, theatre and journalism and appears in numerous printed anthologies and online publications.
