Greta Gerwig’s second feature as director is a bittersweet and confidently-realised love letter to her hometown of Sacramento and the awkward space between adolescence and adulthood.
In Sacramento, California in 2002, Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson (Saorise Ronan), a teenager drifting through her final year of high school, clashes with her overbearing mother Marion (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse who works tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father Larry (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Lady Bird is eager to get out of Sacramento and embarks on a journey of self-discovery, experimenting with new friendships and boyfriends while also trying to balance her relationship with her mother and her best friend Julie.
