Lynch toys in Eraserhead with a noirish style familiar with mid-century sci-fi horrors, and it’s hard not to think of this classic in particular, in which one’s family and friends– or even oneself – can find their bodies taken over by extra-terrestrial creatures, turning them into something that is somewhere between human and alien.
From the opening shots of Eraserhead, we are transported to another planet: one on which those we should be closest to become completely unfamiliar to us and our own genes can be reproduced in monstrous mimicry of us.
