Inspired by the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), a revolutionary leftist political and militant group based in Mexico, this new fictional film from the political activist art group Chto Delat? explores the idea of the ‘Zapatista Embassy’, horizontal meetings which encouraged others to walk with the Zapatista and urged people to go into Mexico and the rest of the world and deliver their message.
Based on conversations and meetings with people who were part of this process Zapatista Embassy (2017) creates an imaginary situation where the Zapatista Embassy appears in Putin’s Russia today, one hundred years after the October Revolution.
Commissioned by MUAC, Mexico City and realised with the support of Tyneside Cinema and Centre Pompidou. General support by Foundation for Art Initiatives.
