Artists’ work with the moving image is usually encountered in gallery spaces. Projections places artists and their work at the centre of the cinema, and the cinema at the centre of artists' moving image with a programme of film screenings, live events and artist development opportunities.
Alongside regular events, Projections supports the careers of artists and curators at all stages. Regular open calls provide an opportunity to test ideas and experiment with the cinema as a context for screening artists' films and creating new live work. The annual Projections commissions bring artists' work to a wider audience by embedding new short films in the cinema's film programme. A programme of practice development initiatives including Rough Cut and the LUX Critical Forum offer possibilities for artistic and critical engagement for emerging and established artists alike.
The Projections programme marks a shift from our previous gallery-based programme and presents new possibilities for artists and audiences in the cinema.

I can’t convey how hypnotic, brilliant and strange DECOMPRESSION was....Sally Golding and Spatial have created something really special. What an interesting and special night at Tyneside Cinema, we need more rebellious and brave events like this!
