Art at Tyneside Cinema

Tyneside Cinema houses the only dedicated, state of the art space in the North East commissioning and screening artists’ moving image.

Since opening in September 2014, Tyneside Cinema has commissioned and presented new work by international, national and regional artists and played a key part in the support and development of artist film with two residency programmes.

Presenting an exciting creative crossover between artists and filmmakers working with moving image through an ever changing programme throughout the year, the space uniquely functions as a gallery for installations during the day and in the evening, transforms into a 33-seat cinema auditorium, screening a programme of films from around the world.

Tyneside Cinema has presented work by over 30 artists including; Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme , Oreet Ashery, Sebastian Buerkner, Layla Curtis, Katie Goodwin and Rachel Lancaster, John Adams, Ursula Mayer, Aura Satz and John Smith.

Recent and forthcoming commissions: Andrea Luka Zimmerman, Lucy Wood, Cat Auburn, Larry Achiampong & David Blandy.

The Gallery is open daily 11:00-17:00

Cathy Atkinson, Client Services Director

We were so impressed with the venue, the smooth running, the service, you really did think of everything, so we had nothing to worry about, it was great. We would certainly recommend the Tyneside to our partners and clients when they're looking for a good place to hold an event. Thank you so much.
