Access Cinema at Tyneside Cinema

Tyneside Cinema’s relaxed film screenings for people with autism, learning disabilities and/or additional needs and their families.

Access Cinema is a series of film screenings for people who prefer to see a film in a low sensory environment.

When you come to Access Cinema at the Tyneside, you can enjoy great films with the sound turned down a touch and the lights up a little. There won't be any adverts or trailers to sit through and our team will be on hand throughout the screening if you need any help.

We also have a chill-out space handy if you want to take a break, and if you want to move around or make a bit of noise that's absolutely fine.

Access Cinema screenings run fortnightly on Sundays at 10:30. The screenings are open to everyone.

Where possible the screenings also feature HOH subtitles. Please check the website or Box Office on the week of the screening.

The Tyneside Cinema is an accessible building and has:

  • A lift to all floors
  • Accessible toilet and baby change facilities on floors 1, 2 and 3
  • Wheelchair spaces in all screens
  • Phonic Infra-red system in every screen for amplified sound

You can also download a Relaxed Screenings Visual Story to assist with your visit to Tyneside Cinema.

We hope to provide the best possible experience at all of our shows. Please send your feedback and suggestions to our Access Cinema Coordinator, Midnight Memphis at midnight.memphis@tynesidecinema.co.uk

We are asking for your support, before 31 March, to improve our access offer for customers and raise £4,000 to provide headsets at the cinema for those who are visually impaired or hard-of-hearing.

To find out more and to donate go to www.crowdfunder.co.uk/supporttynesidecinema

Or you can text to donate: Text ACCESS to 70085 to donate £5.

Thank you for your support.

BFI Screenwriting - participant feedback

I loved meeting different writers and hearing about their different aspirations and goals. Every day I learnt so much and left with a much greater understanding of the film industry and how to write.
