“Looking back to the day I sent off the application form to be apart of Northern Stars, I never realised then just how much it would play such a huge impact in my life in the next year and in the future. Throughout the year I have learnt so many skills about filmmaking, which have helped me a lot now that I am at university studying film and media production.

“The experience has honestly been the best. I’ve met some amazing people, who I know I’ll be friends with for a long time. I have had the opportunity to work with some really inspirational and talented people, who I know I would have never been able to have if I had never joined Northern Stars.”

“Northern Stars was pretty much life changing. I know that sounds cliché but it really was. It gave me the opportunity to learn more about the industry, the people and the hard work that goes into making great films.

“I met so many interesting people and made unforgettable memories. Everything from the trip to Yorkshire to the summer we spent in the edit suit. This, to me was the foundation to my career and thanks to Northern Stars I know where I want go in life and how hard it’s going to be to get there. But I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

Where are they now?

The Academy has helped lots of young people from across the region access further and higher education courses across the country including:

• Film and TV Production at Bournemouth University
• Media Production at Leeds Metropolitan University
• Film Production at the University for Creative Arts
• Film Studies at Norwich University
• Media Production at Northumbria University
• Several have gone on to be runners on professional productions
• One received a George Loggie Bursary which they used to helped to purchase equipment
• Films have been screened and have won awards at a variety of film festivals
• Many continue to keep in touch and make films for fun and love
