News Real is a unique project engaging children and teachers with filmmaking, tackling curriculum subjects in a creative and exciting way. Inspired by watching original newsreels, Key Stage 2 students work alongside professional filmmakers to create their own piece of newsreel footage. The project culminates with a celebratory screening of the pupils’ films in the fully restored Tyneside Cinema, where the news was first screened over 70 years ago!
All teachers attend an InSET Day at the start of the project and are fully supported throughout by the News Real filmmakers and cinema staff. In-class support is delivered via an educational resource pack, which details activities and ideas to link the project to a variety of KS2 curriculum subjects studied during Years 5 and 6.
We are currently recruiting schools to take part in the Project in the Spring and Summer terms 2009. To reserve a place on the project or for more information please contact Ben Greener or telephone 0191 227 5508.
